Quick answer

Decide between a grandstand ticket and the free curb. Grandstands are booked through the Tournament of Roses' official seller; the curb means arriving in the dark on New Year's morning. Sleep in Pasadena or along the Gold Line the night before, not across Los Angeles.

The event

The Rose Parade is the flower-covered New Year's Day procession of floats, marching bands and equestrian units that has opened the year in Pasadena since 1890. The 138th parade begins at 8 a.m. on Friday, January 1, 2027, at the corner of Green Street and Orange Grove Boulevard, and concludes at Villa Street after five and a half miles down Colorado Boulevard.

The Tournament of Roses Association organises the parade and the Rose Bowl Game that follows it the same day; float viewing after the parade continues into the following days.

Curb or grandstand

The curb is free and the tradition: people arrive on New Year's Eve and camp along Colorado Boulevard overnight. Grandstand seats remove the wait and are sold through the association's official ticketing partner; the association's site links to it.

Roads close across central Pasadena early on the morning of the parade, so a hotel within walking distance, or a Metro A Line station, matters more than the ticket.

Good to know

  • Pasadena hotels sell out for New Year's Eve; book early or stay along the Metro line into the city.
  • Mornings on January 1 are cold before the sun reaches the boulevard; dress for hours of standing.
  • Confirm the route, closures and grandstand sales on the Tournament of Roses site in December.

Where to stay for the Rose Parade

Pasadena is the base; Los Angeles proper adds a dark, early transit ride. This guide frames Southern California within the statewide choice, with live availability for your dates.
